Condé Nast just bought a smattering of domain names related to its biggest online property: 285 to be exact.
Yowza.
Why?
- The obvious answer is to prevent squatters and other people from infringing on Reddit's name. If so, why did it wait so long to do so?
- Maybe it's planning to introduce new services or have the option to do so.
- Maybe it's a preliminary step to spinning off Reddit. There have been rumors for a while that Condé Nast is planning to spin out the site, given how well it's doing and how little it matches up with the rest of the company's properties.
Maybe it's all three.
