RIM unveiled BlackBerry OS 7 today, with a bunch of new features for its new line of BlackBerry Bold touchscreen phones.
Unfortunately, all current users are left in the dust. RIM says the latest OS will only work on new smartphone models, meaning everyone with a BlackBerry right now will be stuck with the old version 6.0 forever.
The reasoning behind this is that the OS requires speedier hardware to run, which current phones can't handle.
We think this is a bad move by RIM. Apple and Google make sure their OS updates will at least run on the last generation of smartphones. This feels like RIM is forcing its users to shell out another $200 for a phone if they want the benefits of the latest OS.
